Sailfish Fishing in Islamorada
at Robbie's
The sailfish season has just begun and it looks like it is the
start of one of the best ever. With the strong conservation
efforts made of the last 20 twenty years, the numbers of these
beautiful and acrobatic jumpers have flourished in great numbers
off the Florida coast. Between catch and release as well as
the use of circle hooks, the sail fishing off Islamorada is better
than ever. It is not uncommon to get a shot at over a
dozen sailfish in a single day.
The Islamorada area has a unique way for catching sailfish. The
reason is that the sailfish feed on ballyhoo here like nowhere else
in the world. The term we give to this is bait
showering. It is a very exciting way to target sailfish.
It is such an adrenaline rush to see over a thousand-baitfish
running for their lives with several sailfish waiting to take
advantage of a ballyhoo making a wrong turn. There is no
other fishing in the world that can give you such a great visual
opportunity to see such great action. In the last few years
off Islamorada the number of ballyhoo on the outer reef are in
larger numbers than ever. The reason is the lack of commercial
ballyhoo boats targeting these baits in our area. This is such a
huge benefit to the angler; it allows us to catch the live bait
easier as well as gives us many more opportunities to see these
cool bait showers. Hurry up and book a charter so you
don’t miss this opportunity to see this amazing spectacle
happening. We can arrange split charters or private charters
for you. To book a private or split charter just call us at 305
