This image of the fishing boat WAS was taken at Robbie’s marina when it was still the Starck Fishing Camp. The Starcks are recognized as the first permanent residents of Lower Matecumbe Key. They arrived circa 1946. The boat’s name, WAS, stands for Walter A. Stark. The man in the hat is President Harry Truman, one of Walter “Buck” Starck’s fishing clients.
